２０年以上前の学生のころに、大阪ミナミの心斎橋の靴屋さんでミネトンカのモカシンを買って以来、
ずっとモカシンを愛用していたのですが、ミネトンカが生産の拠点をドミニカや中国に移転してからは、
何となく遠ざかっていました。
ですがこの度、ニューメキシコの Taos Moccasins という伝統的なメーカーが
モカシンの生産を中止したということを知ったので、購入することにしました。
代金が３５ドル、送料が同じ３５ドル、合計７０ドルですが、円高の恩恵で６，４００円ほどでした。
このメーカーでは、ネイティブアメリカンの職人さんがモカシンを作っていたのですが、
たぶん後継者が育たなかったのでしょうね。
とても残念ですが、もう今後はネイティブアメリカンの手作りのモカシンは簡単には手に入りません。
大切にしようと思っています。
